LPBOA await Govt. nod to operate on new expressway
Lanka Private Bus Owners' Association (LPBOA) Chairman Gemunu Wijeratne said the government had not informed them whether private buses would be allowed to operate on the Colombo Katunayake Expressway which is scheduled to be opened on Sunday.
“About 200 buses operating on the Colombo-Katunayake and Negombo-Colombo routes will be badly affected with the opening of the new expressway,” he said.
Mr. Wijeratne said the SLTB buses are expected to charge treble on the current bus fair from Colombo to Katunayake whereas we would be charging only double the fare.
The Government should take into account the transportation industry as well as the development of the country.
Other than allocating new buses to the Colombo-Katunayake Expressway Mr. Wijeratne said it was possible to divert the luxury buses currently operating on the Colombo-Katunayake and Negombo-Colombo routes and formulate a schedule where the buses can operate on a rotating schedule.
